The members of the European Peat and Growing Media Association, EPAGMA, have agreed and committed themselves to start using commonly agreed labelling standards on their professional horticulture products. The harmonised standards will provide consumers across Europe with more complete and transparent information.

EPAGMA encourages other companies in the growing media sector to use these harmonised standards.

International Labelling Standards for Growing Media

A. For prepacked growing media

INTERNATIONAL LABELLING According to EN Standards

1. Major constituents: e.g. moderately decomposed peat (H4-H5)
2. Electrical conductivity: e.g. 50 mS/m (± 25 %)
3. pH (H2O): e.g. 5.5-6.5
4. Quantity by volume at time of filling: e.g. 70 litres
5. Recommended use: e.g. for pot plants
6. Amount of fertiliser added: e.g. 1.2 kg/m³ NPK-fertiliser
7. Producer: e.g. Growing Media Ltd.

B. For growing media in multipurpose packaging

INTERNATIONAL LABELLING According to EN Standards

1. Major constituents: see product code
2. Electrical conductivity: see product code
3. pH (H2O): see product code
4. Quantity by volume at time of filling: e.g. 70 litres
5. Recommended use: see product code
6. Amount of fertilizer added: see product code
